How to treat mosquito bites naturally – DIY

Mosquito bites are just a sting, but it creates itching, redness, rashes, swelling and rarely develops skin infections. It can also lead to fatal diseases like dengue and malaria. To avoid mosquito bites one can wear protective clothing, apply a mosquito repellent cream or take other precautions.

But if you are bitten, here is a simple home remedy to treat the affected area.

The remedy

Take 15 to 20 holy basil leaves and half lemon. Crush the leaves and get the extract. Squeeze lemon and get the juice. Take each one teaspoon of holy basil juice and lemon juice. Mix them well. Apply the same on the mosquito bites area to provide symptoms relief and to treat the affected area.

Why Holy Basil?

Holy basil (Tulsi) is an age old but very powerful remedy. This herb has the ability to kill the larva of mosquitoes and help keep mosquitoes away. It reduces swelling and redness of the skin. Holy basil has antibacterial, antiseptic and antiviral properties, thus treats variety of skin ailments. It can be used as a face pack to remove pimple marks, prevents inflammation, skin itching and maintains flawless skin. Holy basil is rich in antioxidants which protects the skin against the effects of oxidative damages.

The antioxidants and alpha-hydroxy acids are present in lemon which is great for cleansing and healing the skin. Applying fresh lemon juice stops the itch of mosquito bites. Lemon is rich in vitamin C and citric acid that lightens the skin. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant which neutralizes free radicals and boosts collagen production. Lemon is also good to treat pimples, oily skin, dark elbow, and knees, ageing skin. Citrus acid acts as a natural bleacher thus helps brighten the colour of the skin.
