How to remove bitterness in the mouth – DIY

There are number of factors which lead to a bitter taste in mouth once after wake up. Some of the main reasons of bitter taste in mouth may be poor oral hygiene, smoking habit, medications, acid reflux, pregnancy, dry mouth, allergies, dehydration and so on. Here is a remedy to remove bitterness from the mouth.

Why lemon and ginger

The combination of lemon extract, ginger and salt is considered effective in getting rid of bitter taste in mouth. Take 3 to 4 lemon, cut and squeeze the extract. Chop ginger into small pieces. Add ginger pieces and salt to lemon juice. Mix well and leave it. Take 2 ginger pieces and chew them to get relief from bitter taste in the mouth. Repeat twice a day.

Lemon juice stimulates saliva production which in turn clears the bitter taste in mouth. Lemons are rich in calcium, iron, vitamin C, potassium, magnesium and fibre. Small amount of lemon everyday can provide lot of benefits to your health. Lemon aids digestion, boost immune system, strengthens liver function, reduces inflammation, freshens breath, flushes out toxins, and dissolves gallstones.

Reason for bitterness in the mouth

Acidic or bitter taste in mouth is usually due to anaerobic bacteria. They appear behind the tongue and release small secretions of sulphur. These bacteria’s drastically reduces saliva production and gives you this unpleasant taste. Chewing ginger pieces stimulates saliva production. The increased production of saliva can destroy the bacteria in mouth and removes bitter taste. Also ginger can stop the growth of many different types of bacteria’s. Ginger is especially very effective against the oral bacteria linked to inflammatory diseases in the gums such as periodontitis and gingivitis.

Benefits of ginger

The phenolic compounds in ginger help relieves gastrointestinal irritation and improves digestion.

Chewing raw ginger is good for nausea. The same soaked ginger pieces can be taken to overcome motion sickness. Regular consumption of ginger reduces cholesterol, lowers the risk of blood clotting, maintains healthy blood sugar levels. Ginger contains many nutrients and antioxidants which is beneficial to overall good health.
