Manathakkali, also called as black night shade or Solanum Nigrum, is a plant which is found in plenty. It is very famous for the medicinal benefits in it and the berries in it. It is found that it has been used in Ayurveda and Sidha since ancient times to treat many health ailments. They are popular to treat ulcer in mouth and internal body parts. The anti-inflammation property of this herb helps to reduce inflammation and reduces the irritation.

As a word of caution, berries that are not ripe (green in color) should not be consumed as it contains solanine, which is toxic. One should consume only berries that are ripe – dark purple in color.

- 5 or 6 Black night shade leaves (manathakkali leaves)
- 3 or 4 Black night shade flowers (manathakkali flowers)
- 50 ml Coconut water
- To treat ulcer, you need black night shade leaves, flowers and coconut water (water inside a coconut).
- First, separate leaves and flowers from stem. Clean them and place it in a mortar.
- Add few drops of coconut water and crush it.
- Add the crushed leaves and flowers to coconut water.
- Mix well and consume.
